Letters: Paying for political access
The fact that electric vehicle activist and salesman Paul Scott was turned away from meeting President Obama is outrageous for several reasons.
It’s bad enough that Scott was denied the same opportunity that others who paid more than $30,000 to meet with the president were given. It’s also absurd that anyone would need to spend this amount to have a few minutes with an elected representative.
Scott chose to be open with the public about his intentions, something that takes courage of conviction. Political parties shouldn’t turn away the proletariat when they have the gumption to put their money where their mouth is — or better yet, people shouldn’t need to pay to be heard.
