Letters: In L.A. development, money talks
Re “A real Hollywood flop,” Opinion, March 28
Los Angeles needs in-fill development, especially transit-oriented residential and commercial projects that can cut commute times, diminish our carbon footprint, add jobs and broaden the city’s tax base.
But does it need Millennium Hollywood? As Laurie Becklund describes it, we Angelenos, especially those in Hollywood, are facing a pig in a poke. The developer has offered no real specifics, no solid time line and endless dislocations. Couple those with unknown subordinate developers without obligations to the people and we face a frightening future for a vital part of town. Money talks, and we know the rest.
I believe Hollywood needs transit-connected revitalization, perhaps with a development half the size of Millennium Hollywood’s 1.1 million square feet, and certainly with the plans spelled out forthrightly for all to support or oppose.
But how can one support handing the area over to the developers and hoping for the best?
