To the editor: The letter writer who said there is no basis on which Democrats can pursue impeachment of President Trump demonstrated a lack of understanding of the Constitution. The framers were adamant about applying a system of checks and balances to hold each branch of government accountable, including the executive.

This president has chosen to surround himself with corrupt players. He has embraced dictators while maligning our intelligence agencies and international allies. He is a clear and present danger to our democracy, and I regularly exercise my right to protest his actions.
