Biden vs. Ryan, winners, losers and what’s next [Google+ Hangout]
Sometimes the fights on the undercard are more fun to watch than the main event. Brawler Joe Biden and boxer Paul D. Ryan proved that Thursday night with the “Thrill in the Ville,” the vice presidential debate in Danville, Ky.
In a video discussion at 10:30 PDT Friday morning, we will talk about the highlights of the combative debate between Vice President Biden and Congressman Ryan. Joining me, Politics Now host Jim Rainey, will be Los Angeles Times business columnist Michael Hiltzik and Jon Fleischman, conservative blogger and creator of the Flash Report website.
Biden’s emotional performance Thursday night stood in stark contrast to President Obama’s tepid approach last week. The vice president brought up many of the ideological hot spots — like Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s comments about the 47% of Americans who he says act like “victims” — that the president didn’t touch.

Ryan persistently argued that the Democrats had their chance and had failed, particularly lacking a plan to restore the economy. He recited a litany of statistics to buttress his suggestion that America is still not headed in the right direction.
Was Biden too emotive? Did Ryan, at just 42, seem ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency? Discussing these and other questions will be Hiltzik, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and author of a history about the New Deal, and Fleischman, a one-time Republican Party official and stalwart for conservative causes.
