LA CRESCENTA -- When they announce “envelope please” for Best
Supporting Actor Sunday at the Academy Awards show, two La Crescenta
girls will be cheering on their favorite pick -- Michael Clarke Duncan.
Ten-year-old Bailey Drucker and her sister, Evanne Drucker, 8, both
students at Monte Vista Elementary School, play the sisters murdered in
the movie “The Green Mile” and, between takes, got to know Clarke Duncan.
“He’s very big, but really nice, the way he acts in the movie,” Evanne
said.
“He’s really big, and we’re really small,” Bailey said. “We had a lot
of fun with him. He is the nicest guy I’ve ever seen, friendly.”
One of the happiest memories the girls have of their time on the set
with Clarke Duncan was singing the song, “You Are My Sunshine” with him.
He’s a big, cuddly bear, very sweet,” Bailey said.
The girls also enjoyed meeting Tom Hanks, who they have watched in
many of his family-oriented movies.
They also got to know Sam Rockwell, who plays the murderer in the
movie, said the girls’ mother, Stephanie Drucker.
“They came to understand Sam Rockwell was a nice man and not the bad
character he plays in the film,” she said.
The sisters are hoping for a long career in acting.
Bailey had her first job at 2 as an extra in “Hook,” which makes her a
9-year acting veteran.
Evanne had her first modeling job at age 1 for Broadway Department
Store.
They both have had speaking parts on commercials, but this is their
first major motion picture.
Their mother and father, David Drucker, joined them on location during
filming.
“We had a lot of fun,” Stephanie said. “We apprached it as a hobby. We
four traveled to Tennessee to do the filming. It was work, but fun.”
They couple also have a 17-year-old daughter Jessica.
Bailey is looking forward to the day when she is nominated for an
Oscar.
“She is practicing her Academy Award-wining speech,” said her mom.
“I want to be a really big actress, really famous,” Bailey said.
Her favorite actors are Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.
Bailey said she wants to become versatile in comedy as well as action
and drama.
“Anything, really,” she said confidently.
