Letter - Robert & Coletta Trainor

Hell, no! It can’t go!

The John Burroughs High School Indian mascot has been a tradition and

symbol of respect and strength for more than 50 years, and it must stay

for future generations.

My wife and I grew up in Burbank, and we still live here. I went to

Burbank High School, where the bulldog is our symbol of fierceness,

strength and respect. My wife went to Burroughs High, and the fierceness,

strength and respect of the Indian symbol is their inspiration to compete

and be the best you can.

No! The mascot is not morally wrong or racist, as Ms. Stephanie

Saucedo and Mr. Wayne Arroyo stated. It’s a symbol of respect and

determination. It symbolizes strength and courage in the face of

adversity, to challenge oneself against all odds, to fight for what you

believe in and to stand tall and proud for future generations.

We’re standing tall and proud and speaking out.

Keep the Indian, but be aware of the bulldog.
