Dermatologist has skin ailments covered

From Botox treatment and laser removal of tattoos to skin-cancer

surgery, Dr. Martin Kay’s skin-care clinic specializes in everything

from cosmetic treatments to life-threatening skin emergencies.

Kay has been a practicing dermatologist for 18 years. He was inspired by his childhood family doctor to pursue medicine and goaded

by his own childhood skin problems to study dermatology. His medical

philosophy, he said, was treating patients like family.

One of his patients, Cathy Molloy of Glendale, has been seeking

skin care for herself and her family with Kay for 10 years.

“He has a full range of all the services,” Molloy said. “He’s like

Mr. Hollywood in there.”

Calling Kay conscientious and responsible, Molloy said she has

been seeking treatments from children’s allergies to “anything that

will hold back the clock.”

Assisted by about two physician’s assistants and 12 full-time

staff members, the clinic sees about 60 patients a day while Kay

himself sees about 40 patients daily.

Kay, who used to practice in North Hollywood and Glendale, shifted

his offices four months ago to Burbank, opposite St. Joseph’s

Medical Center. Kay said he enjoys being in a medical community and

being surrounded by other skin-care professionals that the new

location provides. It also provides him easy access to the St.

Joseph’s Medical Center, where he is also called in for skin

emergencies.

“It is not cost-effective for most dermatologists to visit

hospitals,” said Kay, but for him it is important to continue being

accessible to families and senior citizens.

Catering to clients whose ages range from the very young to the

elderly, and to men and women with concerns as varied as hair loss,

acne, pigmentation, allergies and skin sensitivity, Kay is also

exploring into his own range of makeup products.

Kay is currently researching products from the Dead Sea and South

and Central America. He expects to make a decision on the products

soon and hope to provide them to clients for whom all mainstream

products may not agree with.

Kay’s primary concern, however, remains in providing quality skin

care for his patients.

Blythe Pelaez, Kay’s nursing supervisor, calls him a kind man with

concern for his patients.

“He loves to talk your ears off and educate patients,” she said.
