DINING OUT:Restaurant has food to Thai for

Season Thai Cuisine is a small, unassuming Asian restaurant in downtown Burbank that boasts an extensive menu of Thai, Japanese and Chinese dishes. That menu comes with reasonable prices and a generous serving of flavor.
The long list of starters includes fried wonton-wrapped shrimp served with a sweet sauce that has just a bit of heat. The good news about this appetizer is that it is all about the shrimp — plump and flavorful. The shrimp is not thickly breaded but is wrapped tightly and lightly in a paper-thin wonton that is quick-fried to a golden crisp. Really good.
Even though the restaurant offers Chinese and Japanese dishes, my wife and I decided to go the Thai route, since the name is after all Season Thai.
So we went straight to our favorites, Pad Thai noodles and the beef and chicken satay dinner plate.
The sauce for the Pad Thai noodles was sweet and tasty. There were tender chunks of pork and chicken and nicely sized whole shrimp.
The plate also included bean sprouts and ground peanuts for added flavor. While this was not the best dish of Pad Thai noodles I’ve ever had, it was certainly very good and at the price of about six bucks, I’ll be back for more.
The beef and chicken satay, on the other hand, really ranks at the top of the list. The strips of chicken and beef were marinated and grilled with just the right spices and came with a really wonderful peanut sauce for dipping. Also included with the dinner were rice and a small cucumber salad in a light vinaigrette that was so good we could have made a meal of it.
Lunch specials are served until 3 p.m. and, at under $5, are real bargains.
Served with fried wontons, a salad and rice, a lunch at Season Thai is a pretty complete meal.
I enjoyed the boneless barbecue chicken breast. The sauce was sweet and a bit pungent, slathered atop a sliced chicken breast. The lunch specials also include various varieties of curry and other Asian dishes like garlic chicken and sweet-and-sour pork.
I like this restaurant. There are plenty of dishes to try, including delicious soups, salads, curry and more.
Season Thai is not trying to be trendy or fancy. It just wants to be good, and it succeeds. The service is prompt and courteous, the atmosphere and decor simple, and it’s affordable. For growing families and young couples this last positive is reason enough to frequent Season Thai, but I’m pleased to report the food is an even better reason to drop in and place an order.
