BURBANK EMBLEM CLUB CELEBRATES NEW OFFICERS
Burbank Emblem Club #86, recently celebrated its 66th installation of officers at the Burbank Elks Lodge #1497 in Burbank.
Supreme Emblem Club President Barbara Colburn and Supreme Marshal Rhonda Augustine led the installing suite of supreme officers as the Burbank Emblem Club #86 officers were installed.
Burbank Elks Lodge #1497 Leading Knight Randolph Garcia represented the Burbank Elks as an honored guest.
Other honored guests were Past Supreme President Ruby Butler, Emblem State President Pamela Stein and other Burbank Elks #1497 officers.
Those being installed were President Matilde Ramsey Jr., Past President Ramona Higgins, Vice President Irene Brandies, Financial Secretary Mary Hoffman, Treasurer Charlene George, Recording Secretary Ivy Miller, Corresponding Secretary Cookie Bentivegna, Press Correspondent Elaine Paonessa, Chairman of Trustees Ethel Roberts, Club Marshal Bobbi Palmatary, First Assistant Marshal Linda Bailey, Second Assistant Marshal Julia Dickason, Chaplain Andrea Allen, First Guard Arlene Baake and Second Guard Ree Walker.
After the traditional installation ceremony, refreshments were served in the social quarters of the Elks Lodge.

GUILD FASHION SHOW LUNCHEON HAS ‘ALL THAT JAZZ’ THEME
“All That Jazz” is the theme of the annual luncheon and fashion show presented by Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild on April 14 in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Universal Hotel.
The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with a boutique offering jewelry, handbags and accessories.
The fashion show will feature some of the top designers in Los Angeles. Carin Holmenas will produce the show featuring the fashions from Robert Ellis and Sy Devore, both of Studio City. The highlight will be the Physician Celebrity Models of Providence St. Joseph Medical Center.
There will be a special $10,000 cash grand prize. Only 250 tickets at $100 each will be sold and they can be purchased in advance at the Gift Gallery of the Medical Center or at the event.
This is the guild’s major fundraising event of the year. The proceeds will go to its $1-million pledge to the Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center.

CABRINI LITERARY GUILD RECOGNIZES STUDENT WRITERS
The Cabrini Literary Guild will have its annual Writing Awards luncheon on April 12 at the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.
This event begins with a meeting at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at noon. The awards program begins at 1 p.m.
Students in the guild’s writing competition will be honored. The students competing for scholarship funds are enrolled in Catholic high schools throughout the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
Rosa Hohman is the chairwoman of the writing awards and has received many entries in both fiction and nonfiction. Judges are Allison Cohen, publisher of the Los Feliz Ledger; Jane Gilman, publisher and editor of the Larchmont Chronicle; and Laura Eversz, assistant editor of the Larchmont Chronicle.
The speaker will be Karle Dickerson, former magazine editor, educator, equestrian and philanthropist, who is involved in various community organizations in Pasadena.
The writing awards are one of the primary reasons that the Cabrini Literary Guild was formed. The annual March fundraiser generates funds for scholarships and for local philanthropies, including Catholic Charities Loaves and Fishes in Glendale, Glendale Public Library Literacy Program, the Glendale Community Foundation and many others.

AFRICAN VIOLET SOCIETY WILL HONOR ITS ANNIVERSARY
The next monthly meeting of the Burbank African Violet Society will be at 7 p.m. on April 19 at the Magnolia Park United Methodist Church, 2828 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank.
In addition to the annual installation of officers, members will cut a cake to celebrate their birthday month.
Members will discuss their first judged African violet show and sale titled “A Violet Concerto,” to be held together with the Montrose American Violet Society on May 19 and 20 at Descanso Gardens. All members are being encouraged to bring their project plant Playful Spectrum for judging.

PROPAGATING IS TOPIC FOR BURBANK-VALLEY GARDEN CLUB
“Succulent and Cacti Propagating (and Other Plants as Well)” will be on the agenda when Norma Lewis speaks to the Burbank-Valley Garden Club on April 5 in the Assembly Building at Verdugo Park, 700 N. California St., Burbank.
The club meets at 10 a.m. for a business meeting, followed by the speaker at 11 a.m. and potluck luncheon at noon.
Lewis is a collector and has been a volunteer at the Huntington Library and Gardens for 15 years. She invites people to bring plants they wish to propagate.
