Man arrested in Burbank on suspicion of possessing loaded stolen gun

A 31-year-old North Hollywood man was arrested Monday after officers allegedly discovered a stolen, loaded 9-millimeter handgun in his car during a traffic stop, police said.
At 10:15 p.m., officers stopped Wayne Hope for allegedly driving an unregistered vehicle with tinted windows, Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn said.
A DMV check revealed the man had two warrants out for his arrest for allegedly driving on a suspended license.
Police allegedly discovered the gun under the driver’s seat.
He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle, receiving stolen property and for the two outstanding warrants, Ryburn said.
Hope was being held in lieu of $70,000 bail ahead of his court appearance scheduled for later this week.
[For the Record Jan. 16: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that the gun was reported stolen from a public storage unit of LAPD’s West Los Angeles station last fall. In fact, the theft report was merely filed with the station.]
