Tree crashes onto Burbank home with resident inside
As rain continued to drench the Southland Friday afternoon, a 40-foot parkway tree fell and crashed onto a Burbank home, puncturing a hole in the roof while the resident was inside, fire officials said.
A woman in her 80s was in the home at 330 N. Beachwood Dr., just south of Magnolia Boulevard, when the tree fell, said Burbank Fire Capt. Peter Hendrickson. She was able to exit the building from the rear of the house without any injuries, he said.
Authorities were called to the scene at 2 p.m. following initial reports of a person trapped inside the home.
Utility officials retrieved fallen electrical wires, while forestry and building officials took the tree apart and checked the structure’s safety.
“They can see a (tree) limb in the living room,” Hendrickson said.
