City officials to examine parking and traffic

Parking and traffic circulation in downtown Laguna Beach will be the themes at the next City Council-Planning Commission meeting with urban planning firm MIG later this month.

The council and commission met last month to discuss downtown Laguna’s retail climate as the city works on revising its downtown specific plan, a key planning document that outlines development policies related to land use and design in the commercial core that includes Forest and Ocean avenues and Broadway Street.

The parking meeting, open to the public, will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 27 in council chambers at 505 Forest Ave. The meeting’s agenda has not been posted, but comments at previous meetings have centered on possibly easing restrictions for how many parking spaces businesses must provide customers.

The city hired MIG in 2014 to develop recommendations for an eventual council vote.

Future meetings will focus on land use and design.
