Compost free for the taking Saturday

Laguna Beach will hold its annual free compost giveaway for residents only on Saturday at the Act V lot in Laguna Canyon.

Participants are encouraged to bring gloves, shovels and 5-gallon containers to collect the compost, provided by Tierra Verde Industries, the city’s green-waste recycling company.

They will be limited to five containers per household; sandbags will be available for people who don’t have containers.

Limited quantities of bagged compost — up to four bags per household — will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The giveaway will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The Act V lot is at 1900 Laguna Canyon Road.
