Laguna Playhouse receives $5K grant from National Finance Partners

An insurance brokerage firm recently awarded a $5,000 grant to the Laguna Playhouse to support the nonprofit’s year-round youth education programs.

Karyn Philippsen, chairwoman of a committee that organized the playhouse’s 90th anniversary celebration in 2010, played a key role in securing the grant from National Finance Partners, which provides employee benefits, property and casualty, retirement, and individual insurance, according to a news release.

“When NFP contacted me about an organization to support, it was clear that youth education was in-line with NFP’s commitment to the communities they serve,” Philippsen said in the release.

The playhouse holds afterschool classes in acting and musical theatre for children ages 4 to 17, along with a youth conservatory program tailored for children seeking advanced theater skills, according to the organization’s website.

“This [grant] will go a long way toward strengthening and growing our program,” Donna Inglima, youth theatre, education and outreach director, said in the release.

The playhouse also offers summer workshops, where theater professionals offer expertise in singing, acting, and dancing.
