Museum previews artwork to be auctioned
The Laguna Art Museum is hosting Preview Week, where buyers can preview work that will be featured at a Feb. 12 auction. Art Auction 2011 will feature the work of more than 100 California artists, live music, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and desserts, as well as a surprise live art performance. Artists Open Studios on Saturday
Twenty-two artists will open their studios from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. A free shuttle will be provided at the Laguna College of Art + Design, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road. Parking is free.

Laguna Tunes kicks off season

Art of striptease for Valentine Day
Hollywood dance and fitness instructor Kate Noonan will offer a striptease workshop aimed at women who want to perform for their partners on Valentine’s Day. The class will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey’s Tavern, 213 Ocean Ave.

MacGillivray hosts film for marine mammal benefit
The Pacific Marine Mammal Center of Laguna Beach (PMMC) and local filmmaker, Greg MacGillivray, will feature his film, “Coral Reef Adventure,” at 8 p.m. Feb. 11 at Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road. Proceeds from the event will aid flood relief at the PMMC.
A discussion about the film will follow the screening. A VIP reception with appetizers, wine and dessert, as well as a chance to meet with the filmmaker, will take place at 6:30 p.m.
An Academy Award-nominated film director and cinematographer, MacGillivray is best known for nature documentaries, such as “The Living Sea,” “Dolphins” and “Mount Everest.”

Art-A-Fair sets Jury Day
Art-A-Fair will seek new artists for its summer 2011 show at the upcoming Jury Day, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach, 1085 Laguna Canyon Road. The annual summer show will take place from June 24 to Aug. 28.
Artists are invited to bring their oil, acrylic, watercolor, sculpture, mixed media, digital art, ceramics, glass, jewelry, photography and woodwork, which will be juried by professional artists and artisans.

Sawdust Studios add more classes
The Laguna Beach Visitors and Conference Bureau and Sawdust Art Festival have added new classes in glassblowing, ceramics and jewelry-making to the Sawdust Studio Art Classes schedule, including a “Fused Glad Pendant” and “Twist and Turn: Silver Wire Sculpture Earrings” workshop.

Dalek featured at 225 Forest Ave.
Artist James “Dalek” Marshall and Hurley recently premiered an exhibit, “Psych Optic Black Light,” which featured a fluorescent, multi-dimensional sculpture at the center of the store, accented by neon strings and lights that became a freeform interactive optical illusion Fuzz” at 225 Forest Ave.
The artist spent more than a year exploring the concept of innovation, dimensionality, color and the power of free creativity through community, he said.
The second showing will take place on Feb. 15 at Hurley, and will also feature a special live performance by musicians King Buzzo, Duane Denison, Steve Turner and Haze XXL.
Dalek was commissioned in the summer of 2009 to create a 10-foot by 20-foot site-specific painting for Hurley’s 225 Forest concept store. His designs can now be seen throughout the Hurley brand.
