In the Arts: Enjoy a comedy show for all ages

An Evening of Improv and Comedy, an appropriate show for all ages, will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 429 Cypress Drive, according to a news release.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for light refreshments and seating. The show is 90 minutes and will feature Take One and Improv City comedy players and music by Marilyn Rees.

Tickets are $15 each, and can be bought through the fellowship office at (949) 497-4568 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. They will also be sold the night of the show.

Author coming to Laguna Beach Books

Sonia Marsh, author of “Freeways to Flip-Flops: A Family’s Year of Gutsy Living on a Tropical Island,” will discuss her book at 6 p.m. Thursday at Laguna Beach Books, 1200 S. Coast Hwy.

Marsh’s book relives her and husband Duke’s decision to pick up and move to Belize, a third-world country without all the comforts of a developed world.

Sawdust offering studio art classes

The Sawdust Studio Art Classes program is offering new monthly specialty classes for the fall season, according to a news release.

In September the class is glassblowing, ceramics for kids in October and digital photography in November. September’s class costs $250 per two hour session. Call (714) 745-9973 to register. October’s classes are $95 for two hours and registration is at https://www.sawdustartfestival.org/ceramics. November’s classes are $95 for two hours.

To celebrate its anniversary Oct. 13, participants can receive a discount for two-hour classes offered on Oct. 13 by registering online with the code ANNIV20 . Classes on Oct. 13 include: Fused Glass with Maggie Spencer, Whimsical Teapot with Walter Reiss, Jewelry Making with Jamie Bichler, Oil Painting with John Eagle, Pottery Wheel with Mark Winner, Tidepool Bracelet with Linda Ames, Leather and Metal Cuff with David Farris and Hand-Built Pottery with Ora Sterling.

Summer concert series coming to a close

The last city “Music in the Park” summer concert takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bluebird Park with the band Knyght Ryder performing.

Arts Commission looking for artists for exhibition

The Arts Commission is accepting applications for its annual Juried Fine Art Exhibition, according to the city manager’s weekly update.

The competition is open to Orange County artists 18 or older. Juror Scott Moore will review submissions and first place will receive $1,000, second $500 and third $250.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 10. The entry fee is $25 and applications must done at https://www.lagunabeachcity.slideroom.com.

Sunset Serenades starting Sept. 7

The Arts Commission will start its Sunset Serenades at 5:30 p.m. every Friday at the Heisler Park amphitheater.

Kicking off the series Sept. 7 is the Jessica Haddy Trio, a mix of violin, piano and guitar. Lisa Nemzo, a singer and songwriter, performs Sept. 14. Nancy Sanchez, a jazz vocalist, sings Sept. 21 and contemporary folk band Phantom Tortoise performs Sept. 28.
