Volunteers needed at Laguna Art Museum
Laguna Art Museum is seeking volunteers to be docents at the museum.
Docents are volunteers who are trained to lead tours of museum exhibitions, according to a press release. After undergoing a nine-month training course, docents meet once a month to enhance their professional development.
Docent-led tours take place at 11 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The next docent training course begins Oct. 1.

Lagunatics returning next month
Tickets are on sale for the 20th annual Lagunatics show, presented by No Square Theatre. The show takes place throughout the month of October at the Forum Theater on the Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Road. Showtime is 7 p.m. for all dates. Playhouse hosts women’s group event
More than 60 members of the Laguna Playhouse’s Playhouse Women group attended an event at the Laguna Nursery Sept. 13, where they encouraged others to join the group, enjoyed wine and art and had a chance to meet author Sonia Marsh of “Freeways to Flip-Flops.”
Playhouse Women is co-chaired by Deborah Mayhew and Suzanne Mellor. The group raises money for special projects for the Playhouse and hosts informative presentations and social events, according to a press release.
“Our members come from all walks of life and have a variety of interests — with our common denominator being a passion for the Laguna Playhouse,” Mayhew said at the event. “At the ripe old age of 91, the non-profit Playhouse is nationally-recognized for the quality of its productions and its award-winning youth theatre.”
“Our current project is to raise money for the restrooms at the Playhouse,” Mellor said in a statement. “We’ve raised over $50,000 so far, with the goal being to raise $100,000 total.”
The group will next host an author presentation and book signing Nov. 2 with Sharrie Williams, who wrote “The Maybelline Story.”

Historical Society’s next program set
The Laguna Beach Historical Society program is hosting its next program, titled “Edgar Payne by Eric Jessen” from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the City Council chambers, 505 Forest Ave.
The event is free and open to the public. It also will be televised on the local Cox Cable channel 30.
Edgar Payne was a key figure and the first president of the Laguna Beach Art Assn., which was founded in 1918, and is the oldest cultural institution in Orange County, according to a press release.
The Laguna Beach Historical Society Murphy-Smith Bungalow, at 278 Ocean Ave., is free to the public during 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Lifeguards seeking photos for historical book
The Laguna Beach Lifeguards are seeking community photographs for a photographic and historical book they plan to release in summer 2014.
The book will document the unique history of Laguna Beach from a lifeguard’s perspective, according to a press release.
Photos being sought include any of Laguna Beach, Laguna Beach residents, past residents, patrons, lifeguards, the beaches and coves of Laguna Beach, Crystal Cove State Park, Emerald Point, Dana Point, the boardwalk, swings, viewpoints, coastal rocks and cliffs, old homes or buildings on beach front, old wooden lifeguard towers, waves, water sports and activity shots, fishing/spear fishing, volleyball and basketball, sea creatures, and other Laguna Beach and ocean-related photos, the release said.
