‘Leading Ladies’ to perform at LBHS
Teri Bibb, Karen Culliver and Mary D’Arcy have one thing in common — they’ve all played Christine Daaé in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera,” although at different times and places.
The trio will host “Three Divas in the Greene Room” at Laguna Beach High School at 4 p.m. Sunday, performing parts of their show “The Phantom’s Leading Ladies.”
LBUSD administration and city officials will be in the audience.

‘New Space’ set for unveiling
The Laguna College of Art and Design is poised to unveil its new gallery, LCAD on Forest, with an exhibition titled “New Space,” which was scheduled to open Oct. 3 during First Thursday Art Walk.
The venue, at 225 Forest Ave., reflects the efforts of Firebrand Media Chairman Allan Simon and LCAD President Jonathan Burke. Situated on the ground level of the ONE Laguna building, it will be a site for exhibitions and other events. Meanwhile, the upper level will be transformed into an e-commerce portal linking local businesses, activities and other offerings via touchscreens and other state-of-the-art technology.
“I’m pleased that we can be helpful to LCAD and to residents of Laguna and visitors to Laguna, who now can see more of LCAD’s great works,” Simon said in a news release. “Upstairs at 225 Forest, Firebrand will be introducing a high technology experience in e-commerce, in contrast to the LCAD gallery below. We hope that ‘where art meets technology’ will become a destination point for a diverse set of visitors to our facility.”
“New Space” features illustrator and LCAD faculty member Luc Desmarchelier, astronomical illustrator and founding member of the International Assn. of Astronomical Artists Don Dixon, and visual artist Janice Lowry. It is the first of 10 exhibitions that will be rolled out in as many months and was curated by LCAD gallery director Andrea Harris-McGee.
“It’s important for our students and the community to have access to works by artists of such merit,” Harris-McGee said in the release. “I look forward to presenting exceptional works of art that will inspire and challenge our students, the community of Laguna Beach and beyond.”
“The Art of John K” and “Alive: Moving Nature” are up next at LCAD on Forest. They are set to be launched during November’s First Thursday Art Walk festivities and will remain on display through Dec. 19.
Guests are welcome from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Julie Ayer and Friends come to LAM
Laguna Beach Live! presents Julie Ayer and Friends at the Laguna Art Museum from 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 10.
The “friends” are violinist Pam Jacobson and cellist Martha Lippi, who both perform with the Pacific Symphony and San Diego Symphony.
“There is a surprisingly rich repertoire written for string trios,” Ayer, violinist, founder of the group and former leading member of the Minnesota Orchestra, said in a release. “They are a pleasure for us to play because each of the three instruments has an important part, and the musical conversation is clear and interesting to follow.”
