Laguna Woman’s Club honors Cheryl Kinsman as Woman of the Year

The Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach held its annual Woman of the Year Luncheon last week in honor of former mayor, councilwoman, planning commissioner, and parking, traffic and circulation committee member Cheryl Kinsman.

But there’s more. Kinsman was a member of the El Toro Reuse Planning Commission, treasurer of the Laguna Beach Neighborhood Water committee, vice president of the Woman’s Club – and she’s currently the treasurer, PTA volunteer auditor and worked with Jane Egly and John Pietig to bring Mission Hospital in to replace the outgoing South Coast Hospital.

Mayor Kelly Boyd presented the city proclamation at the Sept. 19 luncheon held at the club on St. Ann’s Drive. Barbara Crane and Peggie Thomas gave her the Woman of the Year Award, and Pat Kollenda kept the speakers in line with her entertainingly droll introductions and commentary.

Egly, Pietig, Kathleen Blackburn, Renae Hinchey, Martha Lydick, Anne Johnson and Carol Reynolds paid tribute to Kinsman’s many years of dedication to all things Laguna.

Kinsman’s family was present to hear the testimony to Kinsman’s civic undertakings as well as how valued she is as a friend.

The Woman’s Club has honored a local woman annually since 1995. Members of the club nominate candidates and a final selection is made by secret ballot, according to the luncheon’s program.
