Around Town: Christmas is the time for volleyball

The sixth annual Laguna Polar Bear Volleyball tournament and toy drive was held Dec. 13, with 16 co-ed, four-person teams playing at Main Beach in perfect 65-degree weather, according to a news release.

Participants brought a dish for a pot luck, and a large crate of toys was collected for the One Laguna Toy Drive. As the tournament ended at sunset, the teams adjourned to The White House and The Deck to toast their day, the release said.

Sponsors included Starbucks Coffee, One Laguna, The White House, The Deck and Pacific Edge Hotel. Orgain, maker of organic nutritional shakes, provided prizes for the winners.

The winners in the top Open division were Adam Lythgoe, Jon Pflueger, Patrick Halliday and Don Saunders. The winners in the Social Division were Craig Lawson, Kayla Moore, Therese DeGroot and Jenna Miller.
