Pet of the Week

Hidden, but very close, a stray tortoiseshell cat lies under the Birds of Paradise plants at Fashion Island, going unnoticed until now.

According to witnesses, the cat has been seen around the shopping center since fall 2012. Kaitlin Agee sees the kitty under the Birds of Paradise frequently near the sidewalk when walking from her office building to the center.

Community Animal Network has been asked to assist in the rescue of the Fashion Island kitty that we have named “Paradise.” A humane animal trap will be set on the property, and, when caught, “Paradise” will be scanned for a microchip to discover if she has an owner.

Our shelters are full of lost cats and dogs that are never claimed by their owners because people often neglect to microchip their pets. In Newport Beach, many people that lose a cat just assume the animal has become prey and don’t even look for their pet at all. Unfortunately, many cats and dogs are never claimed that enter our municipal shelters.

If you or anyone you know has lost a tortoiseshell cat near Fashion Island in the year 2012, please phone (949) 759-3646 or email contact@animalnetwork.org.
