Princess Cruise to Alaska promotion
Amanda Jordan of Princess Cruises will be at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St., from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today to promote a cruise sale and Susi Q travel special. Newsmaker’s Forum is Wednesday
A current event group meets from noon to 2 p.m. every Wednesday in the Tech Room at the Susi Q Senior Center to watch newsmaker interviews and participate in a facilitator-led discussion. This activity is free.
Memoir writing workshop begins
Those with a story to share who need some help getting started are invited to a six-session memoir writing workshop starting from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the game room at the Susi Q Senior Center. Participants will learn about the qualities of good memoir writing, read and discuss published memoirs, and discover a personal writing voice, style and purpose. The cost is $95. Advanced Awareness seminar set
Veeder South will conduct a free introductory two-hour workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday on how to achieve greater happiness through balancing conscious energy in body, mind and spirit. Participants will learn to measure their four personality temperament preferences and the conscious energy contained in each of their seven chakra centers of consciousness. AARP driver safety course
An AARP Driver Safety Refresher Course is planned from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 27 and 28 at the Susi Q Senior Center. The course will teach driving strategies and defensive driving techniques. Participants may also be eligible for a discount on their auto insurance. The cost for AARP members is $12 and for nonmembers, $14. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.
Surf’s Way Up: Musical Heritage
The Susi Q and Laguna Beach Historical Society will present veteran surf band locals Bob Colwell, Tracy Longstreth and Matt Quilter playing and discussing surf music from a historical perspective from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 29. Dr. Phil Show taping
The Dr. Phil Show is again sponsoring a free bus to two tapings of his show at the Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood on Feb 8. The bus will leave from the Albertson’s shopping center at 6 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m. To reserve a seat, call (949) (949) 497-2441.
Hearing assistance devices available
Thanks to the generosity of Sabra Lande, the Susi Q has a new portable hearing device system. Anyone who is hearing impaired and wishes to attend activities at the Susi Q, should stop by the front desk to learn more about this equipment. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.
Alzheimer’s caregiver support
Caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s are invited to meet once a month for an informational and informal support group. Topics include how to recognize the early signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia and strategies for dealing with loved ones who are affected by the disease. The meetings take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.
Free hearing screenings offered
Audiologist Cheryl Eiler will perform free hearing screenings — consisting of comprehensive pure-tone and speech audiometry — from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Appointments are scheduled every 30 minute, and she will mail the results to your home. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.
