Boxing star visits Chabad

World Boxing Assn. welterweight champion Dmitriy Salita, hailed as “The Star of David” for his adherence to rules of Jewish law, will speak at 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at Chabad Jewish Center, 30804 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach.

At 13 years of age, Salita began boxing but was also deeply involved with the local Brooklyn Chabad synagogue. Sticking by the rules of Jewish law, he never fights during the Sabbath, and keeps kosher on the road by bringing and cooking food from his synagogue.
