Orchid expo in bloom
The Newport Harbor Orchid Society’s 2011 Orchid Expo and Sale opens Friday morning in the JCPenney wing at the Westminster Mall — off the San Diego (405) Freeway at Bolsa Avenue — and goes through Sunday evening.
The expo, the society’s 10th annual orchid expo and the second one to be staged at the mall in Westminster, will showcase thousands of orchids in bloom from all over the world, according to information posted on the NHOS website.
Professional orchid growers will be on hand, and the expo will also feature free culture workshops and repotting classes. Plants will be judged by accredited judges of the American Orchid Society and the Cymbidium Society of America, and local society members.
Parking and admission are free. The expo will go from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Among its main goals, the Newport Harbor Orchid Society, which was established in 1979, strives to promote the conservation of orchids. The society holds its meetings at Costa Mesa’s Neighborhood Community Center, at 1845 Park Ave., on the third Tuesday of each month.
The society has more than 150 members scattered between Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego and Riverside counties, according to the website. For more information about the expo, go to https://www.nhos.org.
