Students invited to apply for Festival of Arts scholarship

High school seniors in Laguna Beach or those enrolled at Laguna Beach High School are invited to apply for the Festival of Arts scholarship by March 15.

The four-year, competitive funding program benefits young artists with a desire to pursue film, performing arts (dance, music and theater arts, which includes performance and production), visual arts and writing. While applications will be accepted for any or all of the available categories, students will only be granted one scholarship.

Scholarship applications are now available online and at the Festival office at 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

“Students with talents in multiple fields are encouraged to submit an application in more than one category,” said Festival of Arts Board Secretary and Scholarship Chair Pat Kollenda. “This is an excellent opportunity for students who are considering a career in the arts.”

Auditions and interviews are slated for March and April. Awards begin at $1,000 and can be renewed for a total of four one-year scholarships. Students must reapply each summer for a continuation of scholarship status.

Music Festival includes the passionate and captivating

This year’s Laguna Beach Music Festival features Argentinian music and the melodies of South America.

The event will showcase pianist-composer Pablo Ziegler and his classical tango quartet. Special guests include jazz violinist Regina Carter and pan-Latin folk ensemble Huayucaltia. The festival also tips its hat to the artists of tomorrow with a performance by the award-winning Calidore String Quartet, as well as young talent from the Colburn School Conservatory of Music.

“Although we are rooted in chamber music, Laguna Beach Music Festival has always pushed outwards, past the outer reaches of classical music,” Festival Director Sandy Robertson wrote in a release. “We inhabit the space where genres collide — where chamber music meets jazz and world music and folk and indie everything. This year, for the 11th annual Music Festival, we are listening to music that’s passionate, complex, captivating and fun.”

The festival takes place Feb. 5 through 10 at assorted venues. For more information, visit https://www.LagunaBeachMusicFestival.com email info@LagunaBeachMusicFestival.com or call Laguna Beach Live! at (949) 715-9713.
