The Laguna Art Museum is teaming up with AIDS Services Foundation Orange County to host a Day With(out) Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1, which is World AIDS Day.
The event, which is free to the public and includes refreshments, will feature a live musical performance by Men Alive — The Orange County Gay Men’s Chorus, as well as a high school juried art competition award presentation. Special guests include foundation Executive Director Philip Yaeger, Laguna Art Museum Board Chairman Robert Hayden III and Kurt Weston, a photographer who became legally blind because of AIDS-related cytomegalovirus retinitis.
“We are so impressed with the entries that we have already received, and we look forward to sharing the work of these young artists with the public,” the museum’s curator of education, Marinta Skupin, said in a news release.
World AIDS Day, which until 2015 has been themed Getting to Zero, will also be commemorated by selections from the AIDS Memorial Quilt — a 54-ton community art project that spans 48,000 panels and is dedicated to more than 94,000 people — exhibited at 307 Cliff Drive from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.
