Pet of the Week

Brownie arrived at the shelter as a stray last December and, despite being a model canine citizen, has yet to find a new home.

A Labrador retriever and pit bull mix, this friendly boy was found emaciated — weighing barely half his current and appropriate 55 pounds. An easily treatable thyroid condition was diagnosed, and he began regular medication to restore his fitness. Aside from this inexpensive treatment (approximately $15 a month), Brownie is healthy, apparently house-trained and neutered.

He enjoys the company of people and other dogs but, as with any adoption, all family members — humans and pets — should meet a potential new member of the household. At just under 5 years old, Brownie is quiet, well behaved and an enthusiastic companion on a walk or a run.
