Shirley Ann Frazier McKitterick

Shirley Ann Frazier McKitterick, 82, passed away peacefully November 18th, 2011 at her home. She was born November 29, 1928, the daughter of Theodore and Mabel Frazier of Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Southeast High School in 1946. Shirley attended Kansas State University and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. While attending school she met her future husband, James A. McKitterick whom she married April 7, 1950. After Jim’s graduation in Veterinary Medicine they moved to Mexico, Missouri and built The Mexico Animal Hospital. While living in Mexico, Shirley was involved in many organizations, including President of Mexico’s Women’s Club, President of Mexico Chamber of Commerce, President of The Missouri and California Veterinary Medical Association’s Auxiliary, and in 1963 became Mrs. Missouri. After 23 years in Mexico, they moved to Hacienda Heights, California, where Jim became a partner in Washington Boulevard Animal Hospital. Shirley once again got involved. She served as President of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association, and was involved with the local chapter of P.E.O Sisterhood. In 1977 Shirley took her Real Estate exam and started a thirty-year career selling homes, retiring in 2007. They moved to Laguna Niguel in 2003 to be closer to their grandchildren, and attended many soccer games and tennis matches. After retirement, Shirley and Jim spent their summers at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and their Island on Rainey Lake, Canada. She loved dancing and playing bridge. She was a faithful member of South Shores Church and loved her Sunday school class. Shirley is survived by two sons, Jim McKitterick and his wife Michele, of Fountain Valley, Gary McKitterick and his wife Carolyn, of Corona Del Mar. Shirley has four grandchildren Shannon, Michael, Katie and Kelly and two great grandchildren, Alyssa and Colin. Shirley and Jim were married an amazing sixty-one years.
