Petty seeks stolen painting

A painting of two naked women kissing was reported stolen from a garage of a home in the 2000 block of Hillview Drive at 7:43 p.m. May 26, Lt. Jason Kravetz said.

The 36-by-24-inch painting, called the “Divine Word,” was valued at $3,200. The artist, Karen Petty, is seeking information about the theft.

“It was my pinnacle piece for the opening of my show at the Sawdust Festival for this summers show,” Petty said.

Wrong-way vehicle results in citations

Four passengers of a vehicle were issued citations at 4:03 p.m. May 30 at Forest Avenue and Glenneyre Street, Kravetz said.

An officer saw a Chevy Cobalt traveling the wrong way in the alley between Glenneyre and Second streets. When the officer pulled in behind the car and turned on her lights, a beer can flew out the passenger side window of the vehicle, Kravetz alleged.

There were five people in the car, including a 15-year-old girl from Stanton who gave officers an incorrect name, date of birth and address.

When officers searched the car, they and found beer inside. The 15-year-old was cited for allegedly providing false information, littering and possession of an open alcohol container. She was brought to the station and released to a parent.

Three other passengers, two women from Anaheim and a man from Garden Grove, all 21, were issued citations for alleged possession of an open alcohol container. The driver was released without a citation.

DUI checkpoint nets four

Four people were arrested on suspicion of DUI during a checkpoint on May 29. Laguna Beach Police were helped by Buena Park Police in the program, the second of four DUI-license checkpoints of the year targeting southbound drivers in the 31000 block of Pacific Coast Highway, Kravetz said.

The checkpoint, which took place from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., saw 1,928 vehicles pass through. Of those, 705 vehicles were stopped by officers and drivers were checked for sobriety and possession of a valid driver’s license. Then people were given field sobriety tests, and four were arrested.

Three drivers were found be unlicensed.
