It turns out Santa Claus can ride waves as well as his sleigh.

Surfers got into the Christmas spirit a bit early on Sunday morning at Blackies beach in Newport Beach when they donned Santa hats and other holiday apparel along with their wetsuits and made the waters more festive.

That’s something locals are known to do. Blackies also hosts a traditional Halloween costume contest where surfers paddle out in spooky, playful and topical dress.
