Woman rescued after 30-foot fall into Santa Ana River bed in Huntington Beach

A woman was rescued from the Santa Ana River bed in Huntington Beach after trying to rappel down a retaining wall and falling 30 feet, the city Fire Department said.

Fire Department crews responded to an area of the river near Adams Avenue at about 11:15 p.m. Friday.

The woman had fallen after trying to rappel with a rope and no safety equipment, according to Huntington Beach fire Capt. Eric McCoy.

The Fire Department’s urban search and rescue team hoisted her out on a stretcher. She suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a trauma center, the department said.
