The Bride World Expo will have a return engagement at the OC Fair & Event Center on Saturday.

The annual Costa Mesa bridal show will be held next to the Pacific Amphitheatre at the fairgrounds, 88 Fair Drive, and feature new planning ideas, fashion and beauty tips and a wide variety of wedding vendors, including photographers, entertainers, florists and bridal salons.

The show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Couples or brides-to-be will receive an expo shopping bag, a shopping guide, complimentary publications and personalized peel-and-stick labels that will contain their registration information and can be left with vendors.

Segerstrom Center to host Dia de los Reyes celebration

The Julianne and George Argyros Plaza at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa will play host Sunday to a free celebration of Dia de los Reyes.

The event — which commemorates when the three kings, or wise men, arrived to give gifts to baby Jesus — will include live entertainment and opportunities to learn about traditions for the holiday from around the world.

Guests also can sample traditional rosca de reyes, or kings’ cake.

The event will run from 1 to 4 p.m. The Segerstrom Center is at 600 Town Center Drive.

Unveiling set for new temporary art installation at Laguna City Hall

Artist Tom Fruin and Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen will unveil the newest temporary art installation at City Hall — called “Camouflage House” — at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

After the unveiling, city Arts Commission Chairman Adam Schwerner will lead a discussion with Fruin about the concept of “home.” Those who attend will be encouraged to share what “home” means to them.

The previous installation at City Hall — “The Caretakers,” a work by artist Mark Jenkins and collaborator Sandra Fernandez — was retired Nov. 1.

New N.B. library exhibitions are for the birds

A photography exhibition depicting marine birds in Newport Beach, Crystal Cove, the Bolsa Chica wetlands and San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary will open Monday at the Newport Beach Central Library.

The photos — the work of amateur photographer Gail White, a longtime resident of Balboa Island — will be exhibited during regular library hours through March 6. The library is at 1000 Avocado Ave.

Also coming to roost at the library Monday is a bird sculpture exhibit from artist Cindy English Gillis, who crafted the pieces using driftwood and other natural materials.

That display also will be open for viewing during regular library hours through March 6.

Speak Up Newport meeting will provide update on homelessness efforts

The next Speak Up Newport meeting will feature an update from Newport Beach’s homelessness coordinator, Natalie Basmaciyan.

Wednesday’s event will start with a reception at 5:15 p.m., followed by a program and Q&A in the Civic Center Community Room, 100 Civic Center Drive.

The event is free to attend and reservations are not necessary.

Cellist Alex Greenbaum to perform in Laguna Beach

Alex Greenbaum, a cellist and an instructor at San Diego State University, will perform Jan. 9 during Live at the Museum in Laguna Beach.

Greenbaum will perform a selection of pieces from the 17th and 18th centuries by Gabrielli, Antonii, Dall’Abaco and Bach.

The concert, a collaboration between Laguna Beach Live and the Laguna Art Museum, starts at 7 p.m. at the museum, 307 Cliff Drive. It is free for museum members; non-members can attend with the price of museum admission.

Sherman Library & Gardens to host lunch and lecture

Evan Meyer, assistant director of the botanical garden at UCLA, will compare the plants and landscapes of California and South Africa and provide insight into how wild plants are cultivated during a Jan. 10 lunch and lecture at Sherman Library & Gardens in Corona del Mar.

Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the lecture at 12:15 p.m. Attending both will cost $30 for Sherman Library members and $40 for non-members. The lecture alone is free for members and $5 for non-members.

Pageant of the Masters open casting call coming up

The open casting call for the 2020 Pageant of the Masters will start Jan. 10 at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

The casting call will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 10-11 and 2 to 5 p.m. Jan. 12.

The theme for this year’s production of live re-creations of artistic works is “Made in America” and will spotlight works dating to America’s revolutionary days.

More than 1,200 people attended last year’s open casting call.

Free tax prep offered in Newport Beach

Low-income families can get free help with their tax returns this month at the Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living at 307 Placentia Ave. in Newport Beach.

Those whose household income was less than $60,000 in 2019 may be eligible to file their taxes for free. Others may qualify for cash-back tax credits that could increase their refunds.

Applicants sought for Laguna Beach committees

Laguna Beach is accepting applications for several City Council-appointed committees and commissions.

Applications are available from the city clerk’s office or the city website, lagunabeachcity.net.

Positions are open on the Recreation Committee, Design Review Board, Heritage Committee, Environmental Sustainability Committee, View Restoration Committee and Parking, Traffic & Circulation Committee.

Applications must be filed by 4:30 p.m. Jan. 24, and the council will interview and appoint candidates Feb. 4.

The terms for all appointees will begin April 1 and run through March 2022.

Female leadership team announced at Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club

The Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club announced Thursday that its top three commodore positions will be held by women this year.

Newly appointed for 2020 are Commodore Ginny Lombardi, who will serve as the Corona del Mar club’s chief executive; Vice Commodore Rhonda Tolar, who will serve as a liaison between the board of directors and water-based committees and activities; and Rear Commodore Kari Konapelsky, who will assist Lombardi and Tolar in their duties and act as a liaison between the board of directors and land-based committees and activities.

There have been only five female commodores in the club’s 60-year history, according to a news release.

New Bonchon location winging its way to Fountain Valley

Bonchon, a Korean fried chicken and wing restaurant known for its double-fried chicken, announced that it will open a new location this summer in the Fountain Valley Town Center at 16177 Brookhurst St.

This will be the international chain’s 20th location in California.

In addition to chicken, the restaurant will include a full menu of Korean specialties such as kimchi, bulgogi, japchae and a variety of domestic and Korean specialty beers, wines and cocktails. The location is expected to open in July.
