A Fountain Valley man is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs in a deadly crash in Garden Grove, police said.

Kyle Morey, 27, who was hospitalized Thursday and underwent surgery, is suspected of causing a three-vehicle chain-reaction crash that killed Julie Varley, 59, of Garden Grove, said Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney.

Varley was killed when her vehicle was rear-ended at a red light on eastbound Chapman Avenue at Euclid Street at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Whitney said. Varley’s vehicle then collided with a third vehicle, Whitney said.

Varley was rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, where she was pronounced dead, Whitney said.

The driver and passenger in the third vehicle were not injured, Whitney said.
