COVID-19 update: Orange County reports 4 deaths and 69 new cases

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported four new deaths and 69 new cases of the novel coronavirus in Orange County in its updated numbers on Tuesday.

Orange County saw its fewest new cases of COVID-19 in a single day since April 28, when the county had a total of 32 new positive tests for the disease. The cumulative cases in the county to date sits at 2,873.

Of the 2,062 tests performed in the latest reporting period, 3.3% tested positive for coronavirus. There have now been 39,112 tests administered in Orange County.

The four deaths reported bring the cumulative deaths to 61. There have been 11 skilled nursing facility residents that have died due to COVID-19.

Currently, there are 202 coronavirus patients hospitalized, with 62 of those cases in an intensive care unit. All 25 eligible hospitals reported for this period.

Of the cumulative confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, the age groups of 25-34 and 45-54 each account for 18% of those infected. Those in the ages ranging from 55-64 make up 16% of the total COVID-19 cases, and 15% of the coronavirus cases are ages 35-44. The age brackets of 18-24 and 65-74 each account for 10% of the total cases in the county.

Concerning the gender ratio, 54% of the cumulative cases and 57% of the deaths due to the coronavirus have been male.

Just over half of the 61 deaths (32) reported in Orange County due to the coronavirus have involved people at least 75 years old. There have been 43 senior citizens that have died due to the coronavirus, making up 70.5% of the total.

Santa Ana has the most cases of any city countywide with 433, followed by Anaheim with 428. Within the area, Huntington Beach has the most confirmed cases with 230. The breakdown of cases in the other local cities: Newport Beach 102, Costa Mesa 42, Laguna Beach 38 and Fountain Valley 36.
