It was a Tuesday that might’ve felt more like a Monday.

Campuses returned to full-day, full-time instruction at secondary schools across the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.

District officials approved the return on April 8. Secondary students will be returning to classrooms four days a week with one day for remote learning, the scheduling of which is left up to the individual schools.

Up until Tuesday, students were able to attend classes either through the district’s virtual Cloud Campus — which the Newport-Mesa Board of Trustees voted to maintain through the 2021-22 school year — or through a hybrid model since November, where students would go to schools in groups for two full days a week.

Alternatively, students could also livestream their classes into their homes through Cohort C, though it is not immediately clear as to whether or not that will be maintained into the next academic year.

Elementary schools in the district returned to full instruction five days a week last Wednesday, a move that Newport-Mesa officials approved on March 30.

As of Tuesday, an online dashboard maintained by the district reports that there are an estimated 13 confirmed cases throughout the district, excluding those that have been attending school through the Cloud Campus.
