Former Huntington Beach investigator admitted to diversion program in theft case
A former Huntington Beach police investigator charged with stealing drugs from an attempted murder suspect’s vehicle was placed in a diversion program for military veterans Thursday.
Sean Patrick Lotts, 53, of Huntington Beach was on the job as a crime scene photographer for the Huntington Beach Police Department on Jan. 23 last year when he allegedly grabbed the drugs and drove home in a police car under the influence, according to Kimberly Edds, a public information officer with the Orange County district attorney’s office.
Lotts resigned from the department, Edds said.
He was charged with one count each of embezzlement by a public official, seizing property under the color of authority and driving under the influence, all misdemeanors.
The diversion program for military personnel or veterans allows them to undergo treatment in lieu of jail.
