At least one person was displaced Wednesday following an early morning structure fire that broke out in a residential complex, drawing first responders from Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa and Fountain Valley, officials reported.

Huntington Beach Public Affairs Manager Jennifer Carey said firefighters dispatched to the 16000 block of Cod Circle arrived to find a two-story townhouse engulfed in flames. It is unclear whether the residence was occupied at the time of the fire.

With assistance from nearby fire stations, HBFD firefighters had managed to control the blaze by 12:45 a.m. and were able to contain the fire to the affected unit, resulting in only minor damage to adjacent townhomes, Carey said.

More than 30 firefighters from the three local departments responded to the incident. The damage sustained was severe, and the townhouse was declared uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
