Search for suspect connected to Alhambra car-to-car shooting ends in Costa Mesa, 3 detained
A police pursuit of an attempted murder suspect wanted in connection with an alleged car-to-car shooting in the city of Alhambra over the weekend ended in Costa Mesa Monday afternoon with the arrest of three individuals, police reported.
Costa Mesa Police Department spokeswoman Roxi Fyad confirmed Monday afternoon on Twitter three individuals were detained for an incident that reportedly occurred within the jurisdiction of the Alhambra Police Department, including one man who was found in possession of a handgun.
Alhambra Police Sgt. Michael Montano issued a release describing an incident that took place Saturday at around 7:30 p.m., when officers received a call about an alleged shooting near the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Valley Boulevard.
Officers arriving to Saturday’s scene found evidence suggesting a car-to-car shooting had occurred and soon after discovered an unoccupied vehicle allegedly involved in the incident at the city’s Marengo Avenue, near Valley Boulevard, the release indicated.
A victim of the incident, who was not struck by the gunfire, was located at a nearby residence, Montano reported. Video surveillance reviewed by police provided enough details for officers to identify the vehicle involved in the shooting, and detectives advised officers in the area to be on the lookout for that vehicle.
On Monday, a 2018 Honda Civic matching the description provided by the Alhambra Police Department was seen in the city of Bellflower by deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff Department’s Lakewood Station, the release indicated. A pursuit began after deputies attempted to stop the vehicle and its driver fled from the scene.
A lengthy chase led officers through multiple cities, including Huntington Beach, before it terminated on the 300 block of Hamilton Street in Costa Mesa shortly before 1 p.m., City News Service reported.
CMPD reported on Twitter that two suspects ultimately surrendered peacefully to police officers on scene. A third suspect, described only as a male in possession of a handgun, was caught after officers established a perimeter and ordered him to the ground, taking him into custody, police reported.
Alhambra Police detectives are continuing to investigate Saturday’s shooting. The agency encourages anyone with any additional information regarding the incident to contact its Investigations Division at (626) 570-5157.
