A search for a 48-year-old man who went missing Saturday near Corona del Mar State Beach has been suspended.

The man, who officials are not identifying by name, reportedly had an appointment at around 4 p.m. Saturday but did not show up for it. He was last seen wearing blue biker shorts.

Family members then checked the state beach, where he typically trained for his triathlons. After personal items belonging to the man were located onshore along with his vehicle, the family filed a report with the Newport Beach Police Department, according to department spokeswoman Heather Rangel.

At this time, nothing suspicious appears to have occurred, Rangel said.

Rangel said a number of agencies including Newport Beach lifeguards, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopters, Irvine drone team, Anaheim police helicopters and the Coast Guard search and rescue team searched for the missing man.

On Sunday, the Coast Guard announced the end of the search after 27 hours and 152 square miles. Anyone with information is asked to call (310) 521-3801.
