Starting Monday, Huntington Beach commuters should expect to encounter heavy traffic along Beach Boulevard as the California Department of Transportation begins resurfacing the thoroughfare.

The agency announced it will be resurfacing Beach Boulevard between Pacific Coast Highway and Ellis Avenue — roughly about 3.2 miles of a stretch of road that is more than 21 miles long. Work is scheduled to take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays. At least one lane in either direction will be open while the work is underway.

“Caltrans appreciates the public’s patience while we conduct this work,” said a statement announcing the resurfacing. “Electronic changeable messages signs will notify drivers of the closure. The work schedule is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and or construction-related issues.”
