James Tamburro Sr
James Tamburro, Sr.
11/11/18 – 3/9/11
James Tamburro, Sr. was born November 11, 1918, the last of eight children of Domenic and Elvira Tamburro of Verona, PA. In 1938 he graduated from Verona High School and later served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Guardoque in the Pacific Theater, incidentally with shipmate Pete Rozelle, later of the NFL. On July 2, 1948 he married Katherine, the best friend of his sister Eva and the daughter of Samuel and Angeline Banchiere of Oakmont, PA. In June 1952 with his wife and two small sons he left employment at Gulf Research & Development of Harmarville, PA to join family who had relocated to Los Angeles, CA. Both he and his wife were then employed by North American Avn. for several years. He then worked as a starter at the former Western Avenue Golf Course in Los Angeles before joining Parker-Hannifin in Irvine where he retired in 1984. Meanwhile in 1971 the family had moved to Costa Mesa. Jim’s interests were first his family and friends, golfing, and music of the 30s and 40s, a carryover of his earlier days of servicing jukeboxes of that era. He spent most of his last days walking the neighborhood, making friends and acquaintances and doing small favors. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine; two sons, James Jr. of Costa Mesa and John (Annamarie) Tamburro of Las Vegas; a sister, Eva Prince, with niece Carol Ann Dema of Bellevue, WA; and numerous other relatives. There was cremation and no services.
