Woman airlifted to hospital after bicycle crash

An Orange County Fire Authority helicopter airlifted a Laguna Beach woman to the hospital after she injured her head in a bicycle accident near Alta Laguna Boulevard on Sunday, a Laguna Beach fire official said.

The woman was riding on a trail with her husband and friends about 3 miles from Alta Laguna Boulevard at 11 a.m. when she apparently crashed and landed over her handle bars, fire Division Chief Dan Stefano wrote in an email. He did not have information about what she crashed into.

“She suffered a head injury that fractured [her helmet],” Stefano said.

Laguna Beach paramedics arrived on scene and identified her as a trauma patient and treated her, Stefano said.

Due to the remote area where she was located and the extent of her injury, she was transported by helicopter to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, he said.

The fire department didn’t have any additional information on her status, Stefano said.
