Stewart reappointed as coach
The Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education voted to keep winning boys’ volleyball coach Lance Stewart in his job last week when they announced the new staff for the 2010-11 school year, with Stewart’s name on the roster. Stewart had been under investigation following alleged criticism of his behavior during a tournament.
“I’m just happy I get to keep doing what I love,” Stewart said of the decision to keep him as the boys’ head coach. “I’ve always had the best interest of the kids and will continue to do so.”
A special board meeting the prior Tuesday attracted a slew of Stewart supporters who defended the coach against alleged parent complaints and reported requests to have him dismissed. School district officials would not confirm that allegations were lodged against Stewart, citing privacy issues.
Coached by Stewart, the Breakers won two major titles in May, taking the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship May 22, and following that up with a CIF Southern California Regional championship the next week.
Golf Tournament will benefit Boys and Girls Club
The Laguna Hackers will host their the 10th Annual Bob Margolis Memorial Golf Tournament at 9:30 a.m. on July 12 at Bella Collina Towne and Gold Club, 200 Avenida La Pata in San Clemente.
Shotgun start is at noon. A silent auction and raffle will take place before dinner at 5:30 p.m.
For $110, each player will enjoy a great dinner and awards. Player signups, $250 tee sponsorships and silent auction tax deductible donations are also available and welcome.
The Hackers are an eclectic group loosely centered around the real estate industry who play a different course every Thursday and negotiate discounted green fees by bringing 20 to 36 players weekly to the course of their choosing.
They are always looking for new Hackers—and their old lost balls.
The yearly donation to the Boys & Girls Club exceeds $ 10,000 and the children get involved in preparing various tasks for the tournament. A minimum of 70 combined handicaps per foursome is recommended, so participants should be well-schooled in replacing divots, repairing ball marks and yelling fore at the top of their lungs.

Fine Arts for tots
Chabad Jewish Center of Laguna Beach, 30804 S. Coast Hwy., will host five “Fab Fine Arts Fridays” starting Friday, July 2, led by Art and Language Teacher Tracey Belland who will treat kids ages 2 to 7 to two fun-filled hours of exploring the great art masters through food, art and books.
Each Friday will focus on a different master of the arts. The month will begin with Magical Monet, and will also feature Jazzy Jackson Pollock, Powerful Picasso, Marvelous Matisse and will conclude with Wonderful Warhol.
