Frank trades days for pay
City Manager Ken Frank traded some vacation day pay for a bigger expense account to cover increased business expenses.
The City Council unanimously approved at the June 15 meeting Frank’s proposal to reduce the city manager’s vacation allowance and transfer the value to the city manager’s business allowance.
Frank is paid $500 a month for expenses he incurs using his personal car for city business and other business expenses for which he is not reimbursed by the city. But the costs have increased, and the allowance no longer covers the expenses, Frank said.
The retiring city manager said he is also looking at some extraordinary business expenses, including a luncheon he plans to host for city employee, between now and November when he goes off the clock.
There will be no net loss to the city by the trade-off, Frank said.
Waste Management of Orange County’s curbside residential trash and recycling pick-up schedule will be delayed by one day and will not operate in Laguna Beach on Monday in observance of Independence Day.
“Customers who usually receive service on Monday will instead receive it Tuesday, and so on throughout the week,” said David Ross, Director, Public Sector Services. “We appreciate our customers’ cooperation with the holiday schedule so that all of our employees can observe Independence Day.”
All Waste Management of Orange County operations will be closed, including transfer stations in Irvine and Orange on Monday, with normal operations resuming on Tuesday.

Library holds fiction sale in July
Hardback fiction books will be on sale at the Friends of the Laguna Beach Library Book Shop from July 12 through July 17. Purchase one book and receive a second book of equal or lesser value for free.
The Friends have a new website at https://www.friendsoflagunabeachlibrary.org. The site provides information about what is going on at the library, especially children’s programs.
Village Laguna hosts Coastal Tour
Village Laguna is sponsoring coastal tours of Laguna Beach on July 22. The tour on the 63-foot luxury catamaran, “Ocean Adventure,” from Dana Point Harbor, allows participants to view the city from the ocean. A light snack, complimentary beverage and historical, architectural commentary will be provided on each of two three-hour cruises. The first cruise will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 4 p.m., and the second cruise will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m.

Mammal Center sets benefit
The Pacific Marine Mammal Center will hold its 10th annual Sea Lion Sunset Cruise Fundraiser on July 22 aboard the Endeavor Yacht in Newport Bay.
Each year the organization treats as many as 250 marine mammals including California sea lions, Pacific harbor seals, Northern elephant seals, Northern fur seals, and various small cetaceans.
The Sea Lion Sunset Harbor Cruise will support the Center’s animal care and marine science education programs. The Cruise will feature a 3-hour harbor cruise around Newport Bay, an organic Mexican dinner buffet, live music by Kerry Getz, opportunity drawing, silent auction, and cash bar.
