Free flu shots through CVS program

Laguna Beach Community Clinic is one of nearly 350 health centers across the country participating in Direct Relief USA and CVS Caremark’s donation of as much as $5 million in free flu shots to patients who lack health insurance. The participating clinics and health centers will identify uninsured individuals from their existing patient populations and provide them with a free flu shot voucher, which is redeemable at any CVS/pharmacy or MinuteClinic location.

Free flu shot vouchers will be available beginning this week while supplies last.

Direct Relief USA is a nonprofit organization that works with 1,100 clinics and health centers in all 50 states, providing them with free medications and supplies for their low-income and uninsured patients. Customers can make an appointment to receive a flu shot from a CVS pharmacist at the time, date and location of their choice by using the My Flu Shot Scheduler available at https://www.cvs.com/flu or by calling toll-free (888) FLU-SHOT or (888) 88-GRIPE for Spanish speakers. MinuteClinic nurse practitioners are available to provide vaccinations seven days a week during regular business hours with no appointment required.

Marine Mammal Center gets matching grant

Pacific Marine Mammal Center has been awarded a $5,000 challenge grant by Hearts of Montage.

The challenge grant funds will be matched dollar-for-dollar with funds donated to PMMC through their animal sponsorship program, which allows participants to sponsor the rehabilitation costs of an actual patient at the Center. The sponsors will receive bi-weekly updates on their animal, visiting rights at the center, and an invitation to see the return of their animal to the ocean. Many of the releases will take place at Treasure Island Beach in front of Montage.

“We are so grateful to the Hearts of Montage for their support of our Center over the last 3 years, and are excited to see the relationship continue to grow. It is inspiring and encouraging to work with a group of individuals that are so dedicated to the environment and to supporting their community as a whole,” said Melissa Sciacca, director of development for PMMC.

Hearts of Montage has been supporting PMMC since 2007, and has donated time, financial assistance and auction items to the organization, said Christ Loidolt of Hearts of Montage.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center is located at 20612 Laguna Canyon Road. The center and gift shop are open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. For more information visit https://www.pacificmmc.org.

Tommy Bahama opening soon

Tommy Bahama Laguna Beach, a bar, grill and retail store, is slated to open Nov. 6 at the historic Heisler Building, 400 S. Coast Hwy.

Tommy Bahama Laguna Beach Bar & Grill will be open for lunch, dinner and in-between dining featuring seafood, salads and desserts, plus cocktails and beers. Starters and sides are priced from $5 to $16; entrées from $12 to $25; desserts from $6 to $10.

The Tommy Bahama store will carry a number of products exclusive to Laguna Beach including logoed versions of Tommy Bahama’s signature Aruba Zip and Easy Breezer as well as an exciting new cobranded collection, “Sea Bags for Tommy Bahama.” These are tote bags made from recycled sails by Sea Bags of Portland, Maine and will be available in several sizes and patterns exclusively for Tommy Bahama Laguna Beach.

The site was designed Los Angeles-based architectural firm Standard to echo the look and feel of Laguna Beach’s art colony origins, while giving a nod to the Tommy Bahama brand philosophy, “Life is One Long Weekend.” Inside, blow-ups of vintage photos are augmented with new photos of the beach, boardwalk and downtown Laguna. Overhead warm-toned white wood beams and paneling feature chandeliers and indirect lighting. Custom hardwood furniture, along with hand finished tinted concrete floors in the restaurant and wide, warm-toned wood planks designed to mimic the boardwalk create a relaxed, “beachy” setting.

The store is open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday; the restaurant is open from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. to midnight on Saturday. To contact the restaurant, call (949) 376-6886. The store phone number is (949) 376-6881. For more information, visit https://www.tommybahama.com.
