“We all shop for the holidays, no matter which ones we celebrate, so let’s shop knowing that our purchases directly help the children,” said PTA Holiday Boutique Chairwoman Dena Gunsolley.

The boutique also features coffee, baked goods and musical performances from high schoolers and the Top of the World and El Morro elementary schools’ combined choir.

Items for purchase will include toys, jewelry, stationery, clothing, artwork and more, according to a news release.

Admission to the boutique is free.

Fund created for hospitality scholarships

The Laguna Beach Community Foundation this week announced the creation of the Claes Andersen Hospitality Scholarship Fund.

Andersen, who died last year, owned the Hotel Laguna. His wife, Georgia, and children, Stefan and Katie, have established the fund to honor his love of Laguna and hospitality, according to a news release from the foundation.

“Claes loved Laguna Beach and was always glad to participate in the charitable events, many which were held at the Hotel Laguna,” Georgia Andersen said in a statement. “This is our way of continuing to give back to the community and encourage students to enter the hospitality field.”

Tax-deductible donations may be made by sending a check to the foundation at P.O. Box 1628, Laguna Beach, CA 92652.

Jeans collection at LBHS, El Morro

A Laguna Beach High School student launched a joint community service project between his school and El Morro Elementary School.

Bryce Blanton spearheaded the Give Jeans A Chance program, which helps raise awareness about homelessness and collects jeans for those in need, according to a news release.

Sponsor Volcom provided Bryce with collection boxes to put out, and five were filled after the first day on the LBHS campus.

El Morro students participated to help complete their Language Arts Friendship Unit, and the jeans drive also coincided with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week earlier this month.

Bryce will take all the donations to the Friendship Shelter and the Laguna Relief and Resource Center.
