Volunteers sought for emergency response team

The Laguna Beach Police Department is accepting applications for its Community Emergency Response Team, which is made up of volunteers who know how to give aid during a disaster.

Training to become part of CERT consists of 25 hours of classroom and hands-on work in fire safety, search and rescue, traffic control and scene management.

Classes meet from 6 to 9 p.m. for six Wednesdays beginning March 25, with a wrap-up exercise from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9.

Attendance at all classes is required. Applicants must live or work in Laguna Beach, be at least 18 years old and have no felony convictions.

The deadline for applying is 5 p.m. March 20.

Registration forms are available at www.lagunabeachcity.net. The completed forms should be emailed to CERT coordinator Jordan Villwock at jvillwock@lagunabeachcity.net or dropped off at the Police Department at 505 Forest Ave.
