Fire chars home’s deck

A fire damaged a home’s deck in the 100 block of Rockledge Road in Laguna Beach Thursday night, authorities said.

The Laguna Beach Fire Department responded to a 6:12 p.m. call from residents inside the home, according to an email from Laguna Beach Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse.

Firefighters, who were assisted by the Orange County Fire Authority, cut through part of a wooden deck to reach the flames and were able to keep the blaze from spreading, LaTendresse said.

The fire was extinguished in an hour.

No one was injured, and the house’s structure did not suffer any damage. One southbound lane of Coast Highway was closed for an hour.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious, LaTendresse added.
