Senior housing task force members needed

The Laguna Beach City Council is accepting applications from residents willing to serve on a new senior housing task force.

The panel will be asked to advise the Planning Commission by Dec. 30 on what the city can do to keep the elderly in their homes or provide them with assisted-living options.

Under consideration are residential-care homes, congregate care facilities — which involve some communal features — assisted-living facilities and extended-care facilities.

Housing-related services could include non-medical home assistance and home healthcare.

The task force will also evaluate the city’s Reasonable Accommodation Ordinance to ensure that it adequately addresses the mobility needs of seniors and people with disabilities.

The committee will include Mayor Elizabeth Pearson and Planning Commissioner Anne Johnson. The aim also is to include a senior citizen specialist, one real estate professional, three members of the Housing and Human Services Committee, a representative of Laguna Beach Seniors and an at-large member.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. April 9.
