Dog walkers asked to be eyes of the police

Laguna Beach police are calling on dog owners to watch for suspicious activity as part of a new initiative.

The Dog Walker Watch program encourages recreational dog walkers to pay keen attention to their surroundings when out in the community.

“The premise is that dog walkers know their routes well and can easily note what is normal and what is out of place,” according to a news release.

A kickoff meeting and training session for Laguna Beach residents and their pets will be held from noon to 1 p.m. May 2 at Alta Laguna Park.

This will be one of many upcoming opportunities to interact with police. The goal is to train community members to heighten their senses in order to recognize when things are out of place.

Tips on how and when to contact local law enforcement will also be provided.

Alta Laguna Park is at 3300 Alta Laguna Blvd.
